Six Card Golf

Six Card Golf

Compete to earn the lowest number of points through 9 rounds (holes).

Game Type: Family friendly, fun

Players: 2-4

Requires: Standard 52 card deck

Introduction

Six (6) Card Golf is a super fun fast-to-learn card game which has multiple variations (Nine Card Golf, Turtle, Polish Polka). Two or three players play with a standard 52-card deck. If there are four or more players, it’s recommended to use a double deck with 104 cards.

The game starts by giving each player six face-down cards from a shuffled deck. The leftover cards are placed face down to form the stock, and the top card is turned face up to start the discard pile. Players should arrange their cards in two rows of three in front of them and turn any two of these cards face up. This setup stays the same throughout the game, so each player will always have six cards in front of them.

The Play

The goal of the game is for players to lower the value of the cards in front of them by swapping them for cards with lower values. After the final round, the player with the highest score loses, while the player with the lowest score wins.

Players take turns drawing a single card from either the stock or the discard pile, starting with the player to the dealer’s left. When a player draws a card, they can either swap it for one of their six cards or discard it. If they swap it for one of their face-down cards, the new card is turned face up. If they decide to discard the drawn card, they can then choose to flip one of their cards face up.

The round ends when a player has six face-up cards. Sometimes, the other players get one last turn after this.

Cards value:
  • Each Ace scores one point
  • Each Two scores minus two points
  • Each numeral card from 3 to 10 scores its face value
  • Each Jack or Queen scores 10 points
  • Each King scores zero points
  • A pair of equal cards in the same column scores zero points for the column regardless of the rank of those cards
Twists

During the game, a player cannot take a card from the discard pile and then put it back without using it. If a player picks up a card from the discard pile, they must exchange it for one of their own cards.
